The June jobs report showed the U.S. added just 57,000 jobs, well below the 115,000 economists had expected and down from 172,000 in May. Even so, the unemployment rate edged down to 4.2%, though that was partly driven by more people leaving the labor force. Markets responded positively despite the weak headline number, and one notable trend was a decline in the foreign-born labor force.
