Grant Morrison’s 1994 experience in Kathmandu is one of the strangest encounters described by a major comic-book writer. While in Nepal, Morrison said he experienced what he called an “alien abduction.” He described silver, fluid-like beings appearing around him and said he felt himself leave ordinary physical reality.

Morrison claimed the beings seemed to exist beyond normal human perception. He said they asked where he wanted to go, and he chose Alpha Centauri. He then described being taken outside ordinary space and time, experiencing reality from what felt like a higher-dimensional perspective.

The most profound part of the experience concerned what a human being actually is. Morrison described seeing human existence as something much larger than the linear life we experience. From outside time, our past, present and future could potentially exist simultaneously—as different parts of one greater structure.

He also came away with the idea that humanity itself may still be developing. What we consider human civilization could represent only an early stage of something far greater. Morrison even made the provocative statement that humanity had “not even been born yet.”

What makes the story particularly fascinating is that Morrison never claimed to have all the answers. He acknowledged the role of drugs and questioned whether the beings were literally extraterrestrial or manifestations of consciousness. Yet he maintained that the experience fundamentally changed his understanding of reality, time, death and human potential.

Whether interpreted as contact with higher-dimensional beings, an altered state of consciousness, or something that exists beyond our current understanding, Morrison’s central message remains striking: the human being we experience ourselves to be may be only a small fragment of a much greater existence—and humanity itself may still be becoming what it is ultimately meant to become.
