Conservative commentator Charlie Sykes on Thursday connected the dots on what he described as the Trump administration’s “Marie Antoinette” messaging.

Sykes, appearing on MS NOW’s “The Weeknight,” first slammed Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins’ recent widely mocked $3 meal deal talk (in response to the cost-of-living crisis, which Donald Trump’s tariffs have not eased) as “one of the saddest bits of spin that I’ve seen in a long time.”

The pundit then explained how he believes it’s part of a wider pattern.

Rollins herself has previously suggested Americans could combat high egg prices by getting chickens and the president has argued people should be happy with just fewer toys and pencils, Sykes noted.

“Oh, happy days are here again if you get those things,” he sarcastically said.

“This is supposed to be the ‘Golden Age’ and this is coming from a guy who’s building himself a $400 million ballroom,” he added.

“What I see here is just the absolute tone deafness,” and Rollins “does not have her finger on the pulse of middle America, in any way whatsoever,” Sykes said.
