Costco’s rotisserie chicken is one seriously hot item. In fact, the company reported to shareholders that it sold 137 million units of its rotisserie chicken in 2023. While it remains a customer favorite, not everyone is singing its praises.
On January 22, attorney Wesley Griffith filed a lawsuit on behalf of California residents Bianca Johnston and Anatasia Chernov, alleging that the retailer falsely advertised its Kirkland Signature Seasoned Rotisserie Chicken as preservative-free.
According to the class action complaint filed in the U.S. District Court Southern District of California, Costco has “cheated customers out of tens—if not hundreds—of millions of dollars by falsely advertising its Kirkland Signature Seasoned Rotisserie Chicken as containing ‘no preservatives.'” The complaint includes photographic evidence showing “no preservatives” language on in-store signage and on Costco’s website.
