Born Dolly Rebecca Parton on January 19, 1946, in a one-room cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee as one of 12 children, she rose from poverty to become one of the most successful and cherished figures in entertainment. Her career spanned more than six decades, producing timeless hits such as “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You”—the latter a powerful ballad of love and farewell that Whitney Houston later turned into a global phenomenon. Parton’s songwriting captured the hardships, hopes, humor, and heart of everyday life, blending country roots with broad pop appeal. She sold tens of millions of records, won numerous Grammys and other awards, starred in films, and built an empire that included Dollywood, all while remaining grounded in her Appalachian heritage and signature wit, style, and warmth.
