Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDonald Trump blared the alarm on Thursday over what he claimed would happen to the U.S. economy if Democrats perform well in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.
But critics quickly pointed out one rather crucial, missing detail.
Namely, Trump will remain president — and therefore still largely responsible for the state of the economy — regardless of the outcome of the Nov. 3 vote, even if the GOP loses control of both the House and Senate, as some pundits have predicted may happen.
“We have record-setting economic success [..,] but the Democrat policies won’t allow this to happen. In fact, the exact opposite will happen,” Trump claimed during a campaign rally in Sioux City, Iowa.
“If the Democrats win, you will have a 1929 […] -style economic depression because their policies are so stupid,” he continued, invoking the Great Depression, the devastating, years-long economic downturn sparked by the 1929 Wall Street crash.
He then doubled down:
“They’re almost like, if you think about some of the transgender policies or the men playing in women’s sports or the open borders. I’m good at finance. I’ve always been great at finance. Their policies will lead to a massive recession, but more likely a depression. Our country will be practically finished.”
Wouldn’t someone like, say, the president be responsible for making sure that doesn’t happen?
