Amid the chatter about the midterm primary results and Dr. Anthony Fauci’s Senate testimony Wednesday night, a deeply unserious question took over social media: Has Donald Trump started wearing a wig?

The question was top of mind after President Trump made a campaign stop in Vegas, sporting locks that looked fuller and a bit more golden than usual.

“Is Trump rocking a wig, or what the hell is going on here?” journalist Aaron Rupar wrote of a clip that went viral on X.

Later, Rupar posted a pic of the hair Trump sported the night before during a Fox News appearance, noting the difference in volume.

Aaron Rupar also posted a comparison showing what President Trump’s hair looked like the night before on Fox News. It’s decidedly less voluminous.

Aaron Rupar also posted a comparison showing what President Trump’s hair looked like the night before on Fox News. It’s decidedly less voluminous.

“He looks like Alec Baldwin playing Trump on SNL,” one person said of the new ’do.

It’s a toupee, some said, or a fresh lace front. Everyone was seemingly Team Wig.

But hairstylists and experts in men’s hair replacement systems told us they believe Trump’s fuller, refreshed hairstyle is likely all real, baby.

“From what I’ve seen and after 22 years in the industry, I don’t believe President Trump is wearing a wig or hairpiece,” said Dina Kales, a hair loss specialist and owner of The Top Shoppe in New York City.

What people may be noticing instead is the contrast between gray roots and hair that has been colored to an ash blonde, Kales said.

“As the gray grows in, the lack of pigment in the roots can cause the hair to look thinning or patchy,” she explained. “So when it’s freshly dyed, the contrast is greater and thus looks fuller, which would explain some of the changes we observe with the president’s overall look.”

Because Trump’s hair is so consistent ― iconic, even, wherever you stand on his politics ― no change will go unnoticed by the public, said Marcos Monje, a hair system specialist and barber at Ace of Fades 212 in New York City.

“Of course, I haven’t examined his hair in person, so I can’t say that with 100% certainty, but from my professional eye, it looks more like styling, grooming and blow drying than a hairpiece,” he said.

“I think it’s what we call in the industry a cotton candy combover,” wig specialist Andrew Disimone said of President Trump’s new ‘do. “This is where you take the hair and grow it as long as you can so that you can spray and comb it into place.

Andrew Disimone, a wig specialist at Hair Place NYC, didn’t notice any hairpieces in the videos he saw, either.

“Instead, I think it’s what we call in the industry a cotton candy combover,” he said. “This is where you take the hair and grow it as long as you can so that you can spray and comb it into place.”

Disimone noted that anytime the president talks in front of Air Force One or in an open area, the whole front lifts up halfway. A hairpiece wouldn’t take flight like that.

Wig specialist Sherry Schaefer said that if it truly were a hairpiece, she’d hope that the president could afford a piece better than that.

“He needs more layers, less length and less hair spray would be a good start,” she said.

So there you have it: Likely not a wig! (Something tells us Natalie Harp, the president’s 34-year-old “human printer,” will be printing this article for him. Good press is hard to come by. )
