They explore bypassing and dissociation and how spiritual practices, somatic techniques, and healing practices can all be hijacked to avoid other levels of experience. We go into stories to avoid emotions. Or into the body to avoid narratives. Or taking a position that the world is an illusion. Or into the transcendent to avoid all of it.

This is true of all stages of development. The mind is always looking for ways to avoid the unpleasant. “You gotta feel it to heal it.” “It’s all about our relationship to our experience.” “Feeling isn’t a doing.”

The key is realizing how we’re doing it so we can learn to make other choices. Otherwise, our aversions are running life experience.
