On Thursday, extreme leftist media outlet Salon announced that after 31 years in business, it will finally cease publication.
Meanwhile, on the social media platform X, conservatives shared some of Salon’s most ludicrous headlines.
“The business realities of independent digital journalism have changed profoundly over the years,” the outlet explained in a goodbye message posted on Thursday.
“After careful consideration, we have reached the difficult decision that our publishing model is no longer sustainable. We know this news will be deeply disappointing to many of you, and we share that sadness.”
In other words, enough readers stopped buying what the unhinged leftists at Salon tried to sell.
How unhinged were they? Well, X users provided a few helpful reminders.
“‘The Legend of Zelda’ is classist, sexist and racist,” a 2013 Salon headline read. “The beloved game takes a dim view of workers, people of color and women.”
“Good riddance,” the X user who unearthed that treasure wrote.

In truth, you have to give the folks at Salon credit for that 2013 headline. At least they tried preserving socio-economic class as part of the identitarian-leftist holy trinity, along with race and gender. Most liberals abandoned lower-class “smelly WalMart people” a long time ago.
Other headlines, however, make one’s jaw drop.
“I’m a pedophile, but not a monster,” one such 2015 headline read.
The X user who posted that gem could do little more than resort to sarcasm.
“You’re telling me this model didn’t work out?” the user wrote.

Speaking of humor, the satirical outlet “Not the Bee” lamented Salon’s departure.
“Honestly this will be a big loss for us,” the satirical outlet wrote. “Some the craziest lunatic left wing nonsense was sourced here. Now we just have Rolling Stone, CNN and the AP.”

On the other hand, not everyone on X considered Salon’s 31-year run a laughing matter.
“You need to understand that the views published in Salon are not contained,” Melissa Chen of The Spectator wrote. “They are thriving in Congress, universities, entertainment and corporate America.”
Below that tweet, Chen shared the following Salon headline from 2015:
“White men must be stopped: The very future of mankind depends on it. For 500 years, they’ve exploited their fellow man and plundered the planet. It’s time they rein themselves in.”

In short, Salon’s demise should bring freedom-loving Americans a sigh of relief. A bit of gleeful mockery, too, feels warranted.
On the other hand, the fact that Salon somehow enjoyed a 31-year run of lunacy, coupled with the knowledge that its ideas have long since infected major U.S. institutions, might temper some of that glee.
