Well played, Ms. Steinem. May God be more merciful to you than you were to the women you liberated;

Well, now she knows.

In addition to Ms. Magazine (that nobody reads), Gloria Steinem left behind whole generations of abandoned women, fatherless children, and aborted babies.
She was enthusiastically not Christian, but since we are told that has little bearing on salvation anymore, I don’t know whether Father James Martin will eulogize Gloria Steinem for her holiness or not. (While we wait for America magazine’s verdict, let’s ask God to have mercy on her soul.)

Ms. Steinem identified as a pagan who “saw God in all things” and, not surprisingly, was “very spiritual.” The feminist activist regarded religion as “patriarchal,” especially the monotheistic religions she delighted in denigrating.

Even the religious aspects of her Judaism were a bit much for her, which is why she gravitated toward the “more mystical” Kabbalah and the Shechinah – the “female aspect of God.”

The one incontrovertible dogma of Ms. Steinem’s credo was that the women of yesterday, who for a thousand years had ruled the world by rocking the cradle, were a gaggle of losers who knew nothing and contributed even less.

And what about our current traditional Catholic mothers and grandmothers? Well, Ms. Steinem tried to help them “throw off the shackles of yesterday.” Her war on Christian marriage was epic, and it meant that women could finally be liberated from men who’d taken oaths of fidelity to them.

Our grandfathers had promised to uphold their end of a contract with our grandmothers until “death did them part.” It was a model as old as history, and it had worked pretty well for thousands of years across all cultures and religions.

My mother and I c. 1998

My Irish Catholic mother ended her days surrounded by hundreds of children and grandchildren.

She never stopped loving life, never saw the inside of a nursing home, and her relationship with her cherished husband of fifty years meant he didn’t either. Poor simple fool, she just refused to be liberated into letting any man use her without first taking a vow to be accountable in the eyes of God.

My mother loathed Ms. Steinem’s feminist revolution which she believed was based on a lie. "Far from freeing women," she used to argue, "it wants to enslave us like no other revolution in human history. It’s insulting to call it pagan since the pagans never treated their women so poorly!”

Patterning her life on that of the Blessed Mother of Jesus, my mother was too much of a feminist to fall for Ms. Steinem’s misogynist madness.

With 20/20 hindsight, it looks like dear old Mom had a point. Too many women today are in bondage, alone, objectified, used, and abused while their men got going as soon as the going got tough.

Then there was The Pill that Ms. Steinem and her friends had tirelessly promoted as the great equalizer. In the end, it only succeeded in transforming women into the bruised and confused playthings of men who suddenly had no obligation to women beyond that which a domestic relations officer could pry out of them under court order.

In the end, Ms. Steinem’s revolution left “all” the sexes miserable – but especially feminists who today can’t even define what a ‘woman’ is. What is she? Nobody knows. Where have all the women gone? Nobody knows. They/them can’t even dominate the women's restrooms anymore, not even in stadiums where men get to beat the estrogen out of girls on the basketball court.

Well played, Ms. Steinem. May God be more merciful to you than you were to the women you liberated.

In Christo Rege,
Michael J. Matt
