Billionaire Rick Jackson, Georgia’s Republican nominee for governor, made an embarrassing swing and a miss on Wednesday while addressing affordability as President Donald Trump loomed behind him onstage at a campaign rally.

Jackson — in an apparent attempt to ride the wave of Trump dismissing affordability as a “fake word” and Democrat-constructed “hoax” — confusingly declared that “the other side talks about affordability as if that’s a solution,” adding that it’s not a political problem but rather a business problem requiring “business solutions.”

Jackson proceeded to claim that his opponent, Georgia’s Democratic nominee for governor, Keisha Lance Bottoms, wanted to “cut down businesses and cancel them” because he visited a restaurant.

“We are not going to do that, and I’m going to make sure that Georgia is the best place to do business and reduce affordability to the lowest it’s ever been, and I’m going to be this man’s favorite governor,” said Jackson while pointing to Trump.

The gaffe from Jackson comes less than a week after he dropped a social media clip in which he vowed to treat affordability as a “crisis” if he were elected governor.

The clip shows Jackson speaking to a crowd about groceries and gas prices rising while failing to mention that the president’s unpopular Iran war has raised the cost of food and fuel in recent months.

Bottoms, in response to a clip of the moment shared by Kamala Harris’ Headquarters account on X, teased that her opponent was finally “being honest with voters about his agenda to raise costs for Georgians by supporting Trump’s agenda 100%.”

Other critics, such as former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), wrote that there were “no lies detected” in the clip. Journalist Zaid Jilani pointed out that Jackson was standing next to Trump before adding, “Democratic ad makers eating good today.”
