He continued Wednesday, “You can just see it by the fact that they’re doing it when the football season is starting. Who does that? My god. And when you look at the numbers, no, that is not the part of the party in which you actually need to motivate.”

The data guru went on to cite a recent CNN-SSRS poll showing 60% of Democrats are “extremely motivated” to cast their ballots in the upcoming midterms, while only 59% of MAGA Republicans — and a mere 41% of non-MAGA Republicans — expressed the desire.

“The ones who are not motivated to vote are the non-MAGA Republicans,” explained Enten. “The people who are far less likely to approve of Donald Trump, the people who think that Donald Trump’s Republican Party probably should be the end of it.”

He continued, “That’s where the problem is. So no, it is not, in fact, the hardcore Republican base that needs that motivation. It is other folks that this convention, simply put, won’t be reaching — because they’ll probably be watching football, like most Americans.”

Enten went even further in arguing why Trump’s prior appeal isn’t helping: He cited a CNBC poll showing 52% are less likely to vote for a candidate endorsed by Trump, with only 29% more likely to — but only 50% less likely to vote for a democratic socialist.

The poll also showed 32% are more inclined to support a democratic socialist.

“So no, it’s not a good argument. This whole idea is ill-conceived,” said Enten, adding: “If you’re coming at it from, ‘Oh, you know, Trump is so good and those dem socialists are so bad,’ the American people are just like, ‘Actually, not quite right.’”
