More minds, more personalities, more complexity. That is what stimulates growth. The problem is not that you parent differently. The problem is that you are working on each other instead of working on the problem. When generals fight, soldiers die. And parenting is an improv. Nobody is an expert. Every child is different and conditions are always changing. What your children need is not two parents who agree on everything. They need two parents who can work together without one of them always losing. Because if you are yielding and resenting it, that is not a win-win. That is a pseudo united front.
