Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayLongtime Democratic strategist James Carville argued Wednesday that soon-to-be-former Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) emerged as the GOP’s biggest winner from the party’s midterm election rout.
“The Republican winner last night was Ron DeSantis,” Carville declared on the latest episode of his “Politics War Room” podcast, after Democrats were projected to reclaim control of both the House and Senate.

DeSantis can now point to his record in Florida and say, “You want to win? Look at what we did in Florida,” Carville said, making it clear he is no fan of the term-limited governor and former 2024 presidential hopeful.
Carville argued that DeSantis, tipped to seek the Republican presidential nomination again in 2028, has managed to maintain some distance from Donald Trump, unlike potential primary rivals Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“I don’t know what his stock is, but whatever chance he had last night is doubled in the last 24 hours,” Carville added.
Fellow strategist Mark McKinnon agreed, suggesting DeSantis could take credit for Florida remaining relatively red by pointing to himself “and what we did here.”
He added, “The greatest beneficiary of this election may be Ron DeSantis.”
