The Labor Department is highlighting a series of major enforcement actions this week, as federal officials continue cracking down on fraud, trafficking, and abuse of taxpayer-funded programs. In southern Georgia, three defendants were sentenced to a combined 101 months in prison for their roles in a transnational human smuggling and labor trafficking operation. The long-running investigation, known as Operation Blooming Onion, involved more than 20 defendants accused of transporting Mexican and Central American workers into exploitative conditions on farms, while allegedly generating over $200 million through the scheme.
