On June 16, the National Catholic Register reported that Leo XIV said that the Society of Saint Pius X [SSPX] breaks with “certain fundamental elements” of Church teaching. He told reporters outside of Castel Gandolfo that the SSPX adheres to certain errors and causes division.
“Certainly, division among Christians is always a painful matter. But they refuse to accept certain fundamental elements of the Church, beginning with various points of the Second Vatican Council. And if they make those choices, I am sorry. But we must move forward.”
Here Leo says that division among “Christians” is “a painful matter” insinuating that the Church should not separate itself from other religions. He is also forgetting that Christ himself made known his plan to set man apart from the crowd and bring about this division.
“I came not to send peace, but the sword. For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.” (Matthew 10:34,35)
Vatican II Innovation is Not Fundamental
Further analysis of Leo’s statement creates an even more “painful matter.” He says that the SSPX refuses to accept “various points of the Second Vatican Council.” Thereby, he accuses not only the SSPX but all the bishops and popes of the past 2000 years who adhered to the exact same teachings held by the SSPX, saying in so little words that these prelates were all stupid. Leo refuses to acknowledge that it is the novel ideological teachings of Vatican II that exist outside the Church’s fundamental teaching. These teachings are NOT fundamental but heretical.
For the Council endorses Islam, Hinduism, Humanism, Modernism, interfaith worship, cultural diversity, inclusivity (DEI), today’s “manufactured” liturgy” (Cardinal Ratzinger), all of which have led to Rome’s present obsession with synodality, climate action, open borders, ”migration,” LGBTQ agenda and the priestly blessing of homosexual couples.
Consider the following from the heretical Vatican II document Nostra Aetate that was penned by ex-priest and # Gregory Baum.
- Muslims adore the one God, living and subsisting in Himself; merciful and all-powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to men. (3)
Did Baum and the Council fathers forget the Quran’s teaching that Christ is not the Son of God? Had they considered its barbaric teaching that anyone who is not Muslim should be slain? Christ, whose divinity the Quran rejects, is the only True God “who has spoken to men,” so do we “misinterpret” Nostra Aetate by alleging it is dignifying an idolatrous religion? Indeed, we do not.
Sacrilegious Celebration at the Vatican
On October 28, 2025, the Catholic world was outraged over disturbing footage of Leo XIV’s livestream celebration of religious unity showing Hindu dancers and interfaith rituals inside the Vatican. This took place during a meeting of world religions held in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate.
What is strange is that we see a whole galaxy of heretics and homosexuals overrunning the Church today yet Leo has never made the least move to admonish these wrongdoers or to even mention their errors. Yet he has taken the liberty to publicly claim that the SSPX is not fully in sync with fundamental Church teaching. Never once has Leo even insinuated that radical LGBTQ advocate Fr. James Martin is in schism, yet he has repeatedly warned that the SSPX will be excommunicated if the Society consecrates new bishops on July 1.
The Heresy of Ecumenism
One of the most destructive errors polluting the Church at this time is modern ecumenism, which seeks to unite the Catholic Church with the world. This was set in motion at Vatican II.
In an abrupt rupture with Church teaching, the Vatican II document Unitatis Redintegratio professes its priority that the Church should unite with Protestant religions.
- The restoration of unity among all Christians is one of the principal concerns of the Second Vatican Council. [1]
Along these lines, the document also says:
- lt is allowable, indeed desirable that Catholics should join in prayer with their separated brethren. [8]
This proposed “interfaith worship” is forbidden by the Catholic Church, yet the document fully recommends this on the false basis that God works through other religions.
- The Holy Spirit does not refuse to make use of other religions as a means of salvation.
In his June 16 statement outside Castel Gandolfo, Leo lamented that SSPX Catholics reject such teachings and hold to tradition, saying that he is sorry for their convictions but that “we must move forward.” He is forgetting that the Church never moves forward in progressivist fashion but parks it at the foot of the cross neither recognizing nor partaking in ecclesial change. For to move forward is precisely to move away from Christ and his Church, which is what the wide body of the Church has done.
Leo more than insinuates that tradition-minded Catholics border on schism when in fact it is the new conciliar church of man that has schismatized itself, though it is not a formal schism as yet. But a schism indeed. His duty is to guard the faithful from all the new political ideologies being promoted in the Church.
If Leo chooses to “move forward” with these ideologies that’s his choice but it doesn’t mean the faithful should follow his lead. If he says he doesn’t agree with everything taught by the past popes that too is his choice, but our duty is to close our ears to this.
Let us pray that Leo will move forward with the Holy Spirit and not with the spirit of the times.
