Passengers have mocked the train bosses who announced there would be no toilets available on a six-hour journey and told them to ask staff for ‘advice’ on board.

Lumo Travel, an operator which runs trains between London, the north of England and Scotland, posted at 8.17am today on X that there would be no toilet facilities on board the 6.11am train from London Euston.

Travellers stuck on board the train travelling the 417 miles to Stirling, in Scotland, were informed of the news two hours after the train had departed, leaving many stranded with full bladders.

The operators said the toilet wipeout happened ‘due to a fault’ and then advised customers: ‘Please do speak to our onboard staff for further advice/assistance.’

The post was mocked by passengers and social media users on X, who wrote: ‘I’d be curious to hear that advice’ and ‘Six hours, no toilet! Taking the p*** literally. Surely this train shouldn’t run’.

Another passenger on board later reported that the train had several delays while on board, writing: ‘The train, 222604, was delayed by around 20 minutes approaching Nuneaton and there was a 25 minute stop at Preston where one can only assume the station loos were very busy.

‘The question is, why was it let out to do a 417-mile journey if it had no toilets?’

One social media user questioned the cause of the bathroom facility blackout, writing: ‘”A fault?” Just one fault that wipes out all the toilets?

‘Would the great John Cronin have let an InterCity train off his Bounds Green depot with no working toilets?’

It is not the first time that Lumo’s customers have had to go without using the loo on board a lengthy service.

The operator’s five-and-a-half hour service on the West Coast Main Line (WCML) between London Euston and Stirling last Saturday, on August 1, also ran despite no toilets being in use.

The FirstGroup-owned company similarly warned about ‘a fault’ with the toilets in a post on social media platform X on Saturday August 1.

Services have been stopping for longer at stations such as Preston to allow passengers to get off and use toilets on platforms.

The 6.11am departure from London Euston on Friday, which was affected, ran with a 58-minute delay and terminated at Motherwell, North Lanarkshire.

The train was supposed to make 11 stops in total, at Milton Keynes, Nuneaton, Crewe, Preston, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Motherwell, Whifflet, Greenfaulds, Larbert and Stirling.

Lumo operates its West Coast services with refurbished Class 222 Meridian trains.
