HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is leading a new multi-agency effort to improve safety and emergency response for autistic Americans. The Trump administration announced a partnership between HHS, the Department of Justice and FEMA aimed at improving protocols for locating missing autistic children and adults. The initiative includes plans for an AMBER Alert-style system to quickly notify the public when an autistic person goes missing. Officials are also working to better train first responders on autism, including communication techniques, common risks and where to search first. Kennedy highlighted the dangers of wandering incidents, particularly the risk of drowning. The initiative also looks to expand safety measures such as location-tracking bracelets and improve health care services for autistic Americans, including applied behavior analysis.
