Shungite was discovered in the 1800s in Russia. The above picture is Shungite lying in situ in the Karelia Mountains, Russia.

As a 98% form of Carbon, it has been used since the early 18th century in medical treatments and to purify water. Peter the Great set up Russia’s first spa to make use of the water purifying properties of Shungite, which he himself had experienced. He also instigated the use of Shungite in the Russian Army and the anti-bacterial properties have been tested and confirmed by modern science today. I thought this modern quote from the book by A. Doronina ‘Shungite – The Stone Savior’ was very interesting:

“Shungite cures, rescues, purifies, heals, protects, normalizes, restores and even stimulates growth. Amazing rock: it kills and devours anything that harms people and other living beings, and concentrates and restores all that is good. The scholars who have studied Shungite in one voice declare, it is a miracle! “

Now that is quite a claim, but as modern science has tested and retested Shungite only to find that it does actually do what it says on the tin, I had to investigate this mineral on an energetic level. On an energetic level, I’ve discovered there are FOUR different grades of Shungite. For ease I’ve labelled them in this blog as:

1. Elite Noble Shungite ~ 98% pure, rough, silvery, relatively stable
2. Petrovsky Shungite ~ 85% pure, rough, silvery, very brittle and sheds a lot of pieces
3. Grade A Shungite ~ polished, Elite Noble Shungite
4. Grade B Shungite ~ rough, non silvery, matt black material, often powdery on the outside

Initially, the silvery, rough Shungite was called ‘military’ grade as it was first discovered near a military site in Russia and very little of this grade was released to the general market for well over a decade. It is very expensive and often hard to source. The popular marketing name for it now is ‘Elite Noble‘ Shungite, which was a name given to this Shungite to distinguish it from the lower grade Petrovsky Shungite.

If you are sold ‘Elite Noble’ Shungite and it arrives brittle, bits flaking off or you can literally snap it in half, you’ve been sold the lower grade Petrovsky instead and I would send it back! Both the Russian wholesalers and then resellers in UK do this on a regular basis in order to make profit, so please only purchase from trusted sellers. I don’t sell the Petrovsky at all as it is too brittle for my liking, but can easily obtain some should you want to experiment with the differences.

Elite Noble Shungite is full of fullerenes. In layman’s terms (as I am not a scientist), fullerenes are very special form of carbon that create a hollow cage of molecules. It is these cages that capture negative energy (EMFS) and transforms it to something that no longer effects our biochemistry. Grade A Shungite is polished Elite Noble Shungite, but from a different mining source. I think this is purely down to convenience as they mine and polish the Grade A on site. The Grade A has a much softer, more gentle vibration than the Elite Noble grade ~ possibly because condensing the crystal through the polishing process eases some of the energy.

Lastly, there is Grade B Shungite that is dug straight from the ground and sold as a mineral. This has the lowest vibrational frequency due to the highest inclusion of basic carbon & base rock. I absolutely love the energy of the Grade B as it feels soothing and supportive, whereas the higher grades can really shock people who aren’t used to crystals as they can create some very strong reactions. Simply go for the Grade you are drawn to, regardless of any logical information you read anywhere ~ your own Higher Self and system knows what you need much better than the logical mind 😉

Military/Elite Noble Grade                Grade B 

Why are the different grades so important? Because Shungite can make people feel strange. It has an incredibly powerful and extremely unusual energy. If you went straight for the military grade, unless you’ve had some experience with crystals, it might be too overpowering. I say this as I’ve seen it happen….many times.  I’ve even had people walk along the stand at an event, step back and walk away from it where the Shungite is and then step back closer to the stand again once they’ve passed it. If you’d like to work with Shungite, my advice would be to start slow, with a lower grade and work your way up ~ unless your intuition is shouting to obtain a certain piece, in which case, trust that feeling, even if it’s the Elite Noble Grade. 

Shungite cleanses and protects like nothing I’ve ever used before. It’s energy races through the energetic system and simply destroys energetic blocks. This is also why it can be disconcerting for some people ~ those blocks might have been there for some time! Once they’re gone, then anything we’ve been avoiding, not wanting to see, known and been ignoring etc ~ all those things are suddenly right in front of us and demand to be dealt with. Shungite then creates a powerful energy field of protection ~ please be aware, this field is sometimes so strong it can cause others to step back from us. They won’t necessarily know what it is, but they’ll feel something odd and want to move away from it.  I feel those that aren’t ready for or in need of Shungite’s energy might want to avoid it. Animals seem to love Shungite however, one of my dogs in particular loves to munch on stones and seems to think any Shungite pieces around the house are fair game 😉

If you wanted Shungite to work purely on a physical level, it can be programmed to do so. Shungite can help cleanse and rejuvenate the body. It is fantastic for boosting the immune system and clearing infections.

Place a piece of Elite Noble or Grade A Shungite next to a glass of water overnight and drink the water in the morning. This is called the ‘indirect’ method of energising water. It will be resonating with Shungite’s energy and help clear out and detox the entire physical body. It is THE best crystal to protect us from EMFs, electronic waves of energy that can feel toxic and overwhelming, particularly in office environments. The ‘direct’ method is to place Shungite in your glass of water or water filter. However, it’s really not necessary unless you feel really drawn to do so as Shungite has a powerful vibration that could charge a glass of water indirectly within half an hour.

Many people tape a small, flat piece of Shungite to their mobile phones or tablets in order to lessen the electronic energy we subject ourselves to every day. I also sell small Shungite disks specifically for this purpose (they are in the online shop labelled Mobile Phone Protectors). Shungite can have various physical effects when we first start to work with it ~ mostly headaches, but some can feel a bit spaced out or it can sometimes trigger a clear out of the digestive system.

Shungite is an amazing crystal tool ~ am not even sure its from this planet as it just doesn’t feel ‘earth’ bound to me, although it was most definitely created by our Earth.  I have pieces scattered throughout my home to protect and keep everything energetically cleansed. Coincidentally enough, since gridding my home with Shungite, my family are rarely ill and even if we do catch something, it seems to peter out quickly and disappear. I can’t recommend this crystal enough!

There are two other ways I protect both my body and home from EMF exposure. Shungite nullifies the effects of EMFs coming from gadgets within the home, but what about all of those difference frequencies flying around in the atmosphere outside?

EMFs travel in waves. These waves hit the ground outside a building and bounce upwards, moving through the walls and into the property. A very simple way to stop those waves in their tracks, is to use a solution of pure Iodised table salt (doesn’t have to be expensive, the cheapest sort would do, as long as it is Iodised ~ Lo-Salt is a good option) mixed with hot water and white vinegar. The water needs to be hot in order to dissolve the salt.

Fill up a large watering can, adding a whole bottle of salt and vinegar. Then walk around the outside walls of your house once every quarter, pouring the solution into the ground and splashing it up against the brick work. When an EMF wave hits the ground to try and bounce up into the home, this solutions nullifies it. Effectively, that wave hits the ground and disappears into it, stopping it dead in it’s tracks. I get round the neighbours thinking I’m bonkers by simply saying it’s a natural solution to stop the growth of weeds as we have animals and I don’t want to put down anything toxic ~ which is also truthful.

Secondly, I take Lugol’s Iodine on a daily basis. Iodine and Iodide are absolutely essential for our body, but unfortunately, our body cannot produce them on it’s own, so we must supplement. There is actually an Iodine receptor on EVERY cell in our body, which tells us just how important it is.

It is my belief that there is an Iodine receptor on every cell to protect us from the radiation from the Sun and harmful EMFS ~ as Nature knows and is amazing! I and millions of others are living proof that Iodine is not harmful in any way. In fact, quite the opposite. My health has improved immeasurably, along with my brain function, since I replenished my Iodine/Iodide reserves in the body last year. People keep telling me I look younger and I am certain Lugol’s has played a huge part in that!
