The Bronze Age Collapse in the Ancient Near East is one of the greatest mysteries we know of. Historians and archaeologists understand (roughly) the where and the when, but the how and the why are much more uncertain. An older theory concerns the eruption of the Hekla volcano in Iceland causing climate change or the movement of the Sea Peoples. While this has fallen out of favor, there is another idea that the Hekla eruption may have caused a similar sort of Bronze Age apocalypse elsewhere in Europe.
