“We’re going to be changing the name of Lake Ontario effective immediately to Lake America,” Trump told reporters, adding that the name change was “something I’ve been thinking about for a long time, actually.”

The new name for Lake Ontario comes about 18 months after he decided to call the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.

But while changing Lake Ontario’s long-recognized moniker to something jingoistic will likely anger Canadians, many people on social media didn’t get the point behind the name change.

But there was at least one person who was very enthusiastic about the newly christened Lake America: Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, who promised his fearless leader the name change would be implemented.

“We’re on it, Mr. President The places and waters that border our nation and support our economy should reflect the greatness of the United States,” Burgum wrote on X, adding, “we are PROUD to implement your Executive Order to rename LAKE AMERICA.”

While Trump probably appreciated Burgum’s message, others weren’t impressed at all.
