President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that people who said he lied about the 2020 election now believe him.

The president’s riff during a midterm rally in Montana was noteworthy for its complicated structure ― a probable lie about a definite lie that many call “the big lie.”

He worked up to his dubious assertion by claiming the “fake news” has underplayed his speeches over the years and complained that “they keep the camera right in my face.” He called the period from 2015 to the present “the greatest political time.”

“We did phenomenal in 2020 but they rigged the election,” he falsely declared. “And I did so well ― as everyone knows, as everyone knows.”

In a fit of rambling fragments, he said “they” used to get “angry” when he cried fraud over Joe Biden’s victory. “Now they don’t get angry, they say, ‘Yeah, he’s right.’”

Trump added that “they used to turn off the cameras” when he mentioned the stolen election. “Now they realize we won by millions and millions of votes.”

The president hid behind his use of “they,” but, given some of his wording, it appeared he was focused on news outlets.

However, it was still unclear if he had any people or media in mind that disputed Trump’s claims and later accepted them.

In response to a HuffPost question asking which people or media outlets had changed their minds about the election, the White House didn’t exactly answer that.

“President Trump is right: Every legal vote must count, every election must be protected, and Americans must have complete confidence in the integrity of our elections,” White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis wrote in an email to HuffPost on Thursday. “Despite extreme Democrats and the media claiming it never happens, the evidence of voter fraud continues to pile up. Anyone who illegally votes in our elections will be held accountable.”
