The incident took place around 9 am on Thursday, in Sagour area of the industrial town Pithampur, sources said.
The crane was balanced on an unsteady base and was laying a 16-ton slab. The crane involved in the work suddenly overturned and fell onto a passing pickup truck, Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi said.
“Both the men were killed in the mishap. While one of those boarding the vehicle was a local resident, the other man hailed from Sehore district,” Dhar district police superintendent Mayank Awasthy told TNIE.
Local residents present at the spot, including advocate Rajesh Chaudhary, blamed the Railway officials and the contractor for not building a proper service road before construction work started.
Residents alleged that no action had been taken despite raising an issue multiple times in the past, ultimately leading the fatal incident.
