This is at least the third knife attack I've written about in past three months. Can you guess what they all had in common? Here are the previous two:

And that brings us to today when a man armed with several knives attacked two police officers in Toulouse, France.

A particularly violent scene unfolded. While several municipal police officers were patrolling rue d'Austerlitz in the Wilson district, a man signaled to them before pulling out a knife. The officers then attempted to subdue him using telescopic batons, according to a police source.

After dropping a first knife, the individual pulled out a second, then a third, before being subdued.

Two police officers were injured during the intervention. One officer was stabbed in the neck and received several stitches. The individual reportedly attempted to sever his carotid artery but failed. A female officer was stabbed three times, most of the blows being stopped by her bulletproof vest.

According to other reports the attacker yelled “Allahu Akbar” during the attack.

There is video of the police fighting this guy. I don't hear him yelling anything but he is quite a long distance away and this video doesn't appear to start at the beginning of the incident. Also, I see three officers fighting with him not two.

Early reports claimed the two officers were in a car when this began but more recent reports suggest they were on foot when the attacker waved them over. The officers apparently thought it was someone looking for help.

Luckily, no one was seriously injured. There are barely any stories up about this at the moment, especially in English. So, we'll have to wait until tomorrow to get more information. Was this a terror attack or another deranged person with a history of mental illness?

Finally, this is not the city's first brush with terrorism, if that's what this turns out to be. Back in 2012 a gunman named Mohammed Merah carried out three attacks over a series of days. The first was a paratrooper who was shot on the head. The second was another group of paratroopers. The last attack took place at a Jewish school in the city.

Monday's attack happened at around 08:00, as children and their parents were arriving at the school, in the Jolimont area of the city.

Witnesses said the gunman pulled up on a black scooter and began shooting at an area which serves as the drop-off point for the school's nursery- and primary-age children.

"This man alighted from his moped and, as he was outside the school, he shot at everybody who was near him, children or adults. Children were chased right into the school," local prosecutor Michel Valet told journalists...

A teacher at the school, believed to be aged 30, and his two children, aged three and six, are reported to have been killed.

The third child killed was aged between eight and 10 years old and belonged to another teacher at the school, French media report.
