In need of some eco-friendly support? Try my guide to sustainable sports bras available in the UK. Made from recycled or organic fabrics, these are the ones to say bra-vo to.

Nylon, Lycra, polyester and other stretchy fabrics may perform well in the gym or on a run or bike ride. Yet there’s a downside. These performance fabrics tend to be made from virgin plastics, which are derived from planet-warming fossil fuels. As such, your sports gear can have a pretty hefty carbon footprint.

The good news is that greener alternatives are now available for all your activewear needs. If, in particular, you are looking for a sustainable sports bra that helps you to stay comfortable and perform, but also has a positive impact on the environment, then I’ve got you covered.

To make this post as helpful as possible, I’ve broken this down into high-impact and medium/low-impact bras. This is because what works great for a gentle yoga session might not be what you would wear on a challenging run, and there may need to be sustainability trade-offs that need to be made to get the support you need:

The price range key for this guide is £ = Under £50 | ££ = £50 – 100 | £££ = £100+

Guide to High-Impact Sustainable Sports Bras

I want to first say that even in 2026, it’s nigh-on impossible to find a high-impact sports bra that has been made ethically with sustainable materials. There are compromises to be made.

The low and medium-impact bras below are made from eco-friendly fabrics. They have also been made with consideration for both the environment and the people who make them.

However, if, like me, you have a bigger bust (I’m a 34E), then finding a bra that offers really strong support AND is made ethically AND is made from conscious fabrics is like finding a unicorn, or a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

If you need a high-impact bra, I’d recommend looking for brands that at least make theirs from recycled fabrics. The brands I’ve found that offer this include:

  • Nike – budget ££, size up to a 36G
  • Adidas – budget £ – ££, size up to a 36G
  • Fabletics – budget ££, size XXS – 4XL

I wouldn’t call these brands ethical or sustainable by any stretch. However, if you’re after high-impact support, they are a bit more considered because of their use of recycled materials. It’s certainly not perfect, but it is a step away from entirely virgin fabrics until a sustainable brand comes along that can cater to us busty gals.

Guide To Low & Medium Impact Ethical Sports Bras

If you’re looking for a low or medium-impact bra, you’ve got some more choices open to you. Here are my favourite eco-friendly and ethical brands to say bra-vo to. Just to warn you in advance, it is quite a limited market:

Girlfriend Collective

  • Budget: £
  • Caters for sizes: XXS – 6XL

US brand Girlfriend Collective, available in the UK at The Sports Edit, is an ethical clothing brand that makes inclusively-sized and ethically-made activewear from recycled polyester. Its pieces are then dyed using eco-friendly dyes for the smallest environmental footprint possible.

All of Girlfriend Collective’s activewear is fully Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified. This means that every component of each item of clothing produced, including every thread, has been independently tested and found to be free of up to 350 harmful substances.

Girlfriend Collective’s pieces are also made with certified fair labour. Its factories are certified by the Social Accountability Standard International SA8000, which independently verifies that the brand conducts business in a way that is fair and decent for workers, and demonstrates its compliance with the highest social standards.

Offering the largest collection of sustainable sports bras I’ve found, Girlfriend Collective offers both low and medium-impact bras in a variety of different styles and colours.

Rapanui

  • Budget: £
  • Caters for: UK sizes 8 – 18
  • Available from: Rapanui

The Isle of Wight ethical clothing brand Rapanui may be better known for its range of eco-friendly t-shirts. However, it’s a little-known fact that it has a pretty solid line of underwear too.

It’s sports bras, for example, come in a pack of two for £40, and are made from recycled nylon. They’re designed for comfort and support, so they should give you the support you need for light to medium-impact activities.

Modibodi

  • Budget: ££
  • Caters for: UK sizes 8 – 22
  • Available from: Modibodi

Sports bras aren’t often made from natural fibres. However, this active crop top, from Modibodi is made from 95% Merino wool, sourced from mulesing-free farms.

There’s a little bit of elastane for stretch, and it is lined with recycled nylon. This means if you are looking to avoid synthetic fibres completely, then you’ll need to look for an alternative.

What I love about this sustainable sports bra is that the soft Merino wool helps to regulate your temperature while you work out and control odour.

Suitable for light-impact workouts, removable foam bra cups are included for extra support.

Modibodi’s supply chain partners are audited under BSCI standards. This ensures fair working pay, reasonable hours, and safe working conditions.

Meanwhile, through its charitable Give A Pair programme, every pound donated by customers goes towards providing someone in need with a pack of five pairs of period undies. So far, it has donated more than 125,000 pairs of pants to people in need through its charity partners. These partners include Bloody Good Period and Plan International.

Highly breathable, whilst providing you with gentle support, you can do the downward-facing dog without worry.

If you are new to Beaumont Organic, this sustainable brand launched way back in 2008.

Focussing on ethically made fashion produced using sustainable and eco-friendly fabrics such as GOTS-certified organic cotton, linen, lyocell, Tencel and non-mulesed wool, it’s become the go-to place for laidback leisurewear.

Beaumont Organic also offers its UK customers free repairs on all Beaumont Organic garments – helping to ensure your pieces go the distance.
