Wegovy carries a boxed warning regarding the risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. In rodents, semaglutide caused thyroid C-cell tumors; it is unknown whether Wegovy causes thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in humans. Wegovy is contraindicated in people with a personal or family history of MTC, people with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), and people with a prior serious hypersensitivity reaction to semaglutide or any of Wegovy’s ingredients.
