Multiple lists of theamata, or sights, were compiled following the conquests of Alexander the Great, eventually being grouped into lists of seven. What became known as the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World as we think of them today—The Great Pyramid of Giza, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, The Statue of Zeus at Olympia, The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, The Colossus of Rhodes, and The Lighthouse of Alexandria, were officially compiled during the Renaissance.
