What If We Become the Aliens of Tomorrow?

Now imagine another planet where intelligent life appeared one million years, 10 million years or 100 million years before us. 

Such a civilization would already have had an extraordinary amount of time to develop. Such a civilization could theoretically have developed technologies far beyond anything we currently possess. 

It could potentially have developed for example: advanced artificial intelligence; autonomous machines; genetic engineering; nanotechnology; self-replicating systems; autonomous spacecraft; planetary engineering; Interstellar space travel: advanced energy systems; telepathy, time travel; technologies capable of modifying its own biology. 

They may have started as biological organisms. But after millions of years, they could have become something else entirely. A civilization that is partly or almost completely post-biological. 

Biological evolution and technological evolution could become intertwined. The civilization might begin changing itself deliberately. Its members could alter their biology. They could replace biological organs. They could integrate artificial intelligence into themselves. Eventually, the distinction between organism and machine could begin to disappear. 

We call them “aliens” and their craft “UFOs” simply because we don’t know who they are or what they represent. But what if that is the wrong way to look at them? What if they are not something mysterious at all, but the result of their own evolutionary journey on another planet? 

Just as humanity has evolved from primitive tools to advanced technology, artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, and space exploration, could these beings represent what humanity might ultimately become after millions of years along its own evolutionary journey, shaped by the technologies, developments, and techniques emerging today? 

Just think about this: If humanity were to encounter a civilization 100 million years more advanced than us tomorrow, would we even recognize it as a civilization, or would we simply call it something we cannot understand?
