A boy in the pediatric ICU was writhing in pain and no one could help him. At shift change, a doctor of 25 years walked in. She had nearly left the profession a month earlier, burned out and done. She took one look and said, I know what this is. I saw it 20 years ago. She called for a drug no one used for this, and the child calmed and was placed in his mother's arms.
