TIMOTHEE Chalamet has made waves in the movie industry over recent years, but fans have now created a wild theory that the actor could be secretly performing as rapper EsDeeKid.

While it may seem far-fetched at first glance, Club Chalamet have done their due diligence, and there’s plenty of “evidence” to back the theory up.

EsDeeKid is an anonymous British rapper who always wears a mask or balaclava to cover his face, meaning fans have never seen his looks in full.

But from what we can see of EsDeeKid, it appears he bears a striking resemblance to Wonka actor Timothee, 29, who hails from New York.

On November 11, TikTok user KJ Freeman laid out her thoughts that the two could be moonlighting as one another – something which has now gone wild on the streaming app, X and Redditt.

Let’s take a look at the evidence…

Aesthetic Similarities

One of the main reasons many are so convinced that Timothee could be EsDeeKid is is the similarities in their face and eyes.

The pair both have strikingly similar blue and hazel eyes, with many social media users using side-by-side panels to compare their faces.

Fans have used pictured of Timothee in his Dune: Part 2 costume – which includes a mask leaving only hid eyes uncovered – to compare his face to the rappers.

“Their eyes are extremely similar, I haven’t seen anything like it,” wrote on user to Reddit earlier this month.

While another user was convinced they have the same hands: “Guys i did a huge analysis looking at pics of Timothy’s hands VS Esdee kids hands. Same exact hands. Same vein placement and everything. I should make a video about it because it’s literally proof.”

Fashion Sense

Another reason fans are speculating about the pair is their similar, or at times identical, fashion sense.

Over the summer, EsDeeKid was seen wearing a black Alexander McQueen scarf – the same garment that Timothee has been seen wearing multiple times over the past year

While Timothee is known for his brighter fashion sense on red carpets, he is also often seen in streetwear during his down days.

Mutual Friends

While you’d think a New York actor and a Liverpudlian rapper don’t have many friends in common, it seems the pair have similar taste.

In August this year, Timothee was spotted enjoying rapper Fakemink’s concert in London’s Victoria Park – an unexpected venue for a Hollywood star.

Fakemink is a rapper who has collaborated with EsDeeKid in the past, including on a song named LV Sandals, which was released this year.

The bizarre connection had fans uncovering that Timothee has a love for rap and alternative music, like that created by EsDeeKid.

Career Timelines

Timothee rose to fame back in 2017 when he starred in Luca Guadagnino’s coming-of-age film Call Me by Your Name – his break out role.

However, he appeared in his first film three years prior, while he was just a high school student.

He most recently portrayed Bob Dylan in biopic A Complete Unknown, for which he sang more than 40 songs and performed them live on camera.

This acts as more “evidence” that Timothee has musical talent – whether it be as a vocalist or a rapper is to be determined!

Meanwhile, EsDeeKid only came to prominence in 2024, when he was named one of the year’s breakout stars by Pitchfork. He has since solidified his place in the rap space and one of the best up-and-coming artists.

This has fueled fans’ speculation that Timothee needed an “alter ego” to become a rapper, due to already being in the limelight for his acting.

One Reddit user explained: “He gets to live a life that a young person with a lot of money would get his whole career sniped for being public with as an actor. 

What have they said?

Despite being bombarded with questions about a potential link during recent press events in support of his upcoming movie, Marty Supreme, Timothee has remained quiet on the rumours.

EsDeeKid is also yet to speak out and is fiercely private when it comes to his personal details – even hiding his real name and age.

His only true defining characteristic is a very scouse accent, something which you’d think discounts US-born Timothee from the speculation.

But with plenty of acting training, not everyone is convinced. “Timmy played a young British king. He can do the accent,” wrote one Reddit user.

Alternate theories

In the, very likely, situation that EsDeeKid and Timothee ARE different people, fans have come up with some other explanations for the similarities.

One fan suggested Timothee could be set to appear in one of EsDeeKid’s music videos: “I think this could be more of an Easter egg though because this rapper has multiple concerts planned and has had several concerts and no way Timothee could attend all of those.

“But I think it could be a fun little prank where Timmy just gets filmed in the music videos while the rapper himself is a different person,” they wrote.
