Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayMS NOW Host Chris Hayes scolded the Trump administration after Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced in a now-deleted post that the U.S. Navy had “successfully escorted” oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, unnecessarily risking lives of American service members.
“Those ships are in range of Iranian missiles, and so this would mean commanding American service members in boats to risk their lives to escort ships bringing tankers full of oil to God knows where another country,” Hayes said Tuesday on his show. “Should our troops die for lower oil prices?”
Earlier this week, President Donald Trump urged oil tanker captains to “show some guts” and sail through the Strait of Hormuz, despite the dangers imposed after Iran began blocking ships.
Wright, whose role the MS NOW anchor noted “has very little to do with oil prices,” in his post claimed the oil tankers that were escorted would “ensure oil remains flowing to global markets.”
The strait typically provides passage for about one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquified natural gas.
Hayes asked viewers should American service members “sacrifice their lives” to escort oil tankers “to God knows where” ― simply for lower oil prices.
“Should they be maimed and killed, and maybe drown in the ocean or be incinerated so that some shipment from Aramco can go to India? You think so?” Hayes said.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, however, disputed Wright’s claim on Tuesday.
“I was made aware of this post. ... I know the post was taken down pretty quickly and I can confirm that the U.S. Navy has not escorted a tanker or a vessel at this time,” Leavitt said during a White House press briefing.
“Well, that’s a pretty big mistake. That’s pretty different, escorting our ships or not,” Hayes scolded.
