CNN’s Kaitlan Collins had her panel laughing on Sunday’s broadcast of “The Source” with a reported quote from a Donald Trump ally about the president’s current apparent fixation on asses.

Trump has repeatedly talked about the rear of Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) during his 2026 midterm campaign rally blitz. On Sunday, he expanded his repertoire to praise the behind of MAGA-supporting rapper Nicki Minaj, who was in the audience and later appeared onstage with him.

While campaigning in Michigan for Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, Trump said:

“I said I looked at his ass and I’ve never done that with a man before. It’s true. Off the record, women, yes. Men, no. OK? By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before: Nicki Minaj. That. That’s hard to miss. That’s, stand up, that’s hard to miss. OK, I’m going to get back to my. Sorry. I hope Nicki wasn’t insulted, but we love Nicki.”

After airing the footage, Collins shared what an unnamed Trump ally had told her about the president’s closing campaign message:

“In response to what you just heard there, one Trump ally told me tonight, quote, ‘The closing here has been ass, both literally and figuratively.’”

The panel burst into laughter.

Former Trump White House Communications Director Alyssa Farah Griffin, who was on the panel, called it a “perfect quote.”

Collins said her unnamed source was “despondent over how the president is handling the end of the campaign.”

Griffin suggested Trump was “melting down a bit in the final stretch.”

“I think he did have to balance out that he’s been commenting on men’s physiques for weeks now by throwing in a woman’s physique,” she said.

It’s the “last thing he should be focusing on right now,” but it’s “the Trump show” and he “knows he’s performing for the crowd,” she added. “But yeah, if you’re Jon Husted, if you’re Mike Rogers, this is not what you were hoping would be on the local TV.”

Collins has been a regular target of Trump’s personal insults. Earlier this month, she appeared to subtly hit back by displaying a mug on her desk referencing one of his attacks.
