Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayPENDLETON, S.C. ― The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an assault witnessed and cheered by President Donald Trump at his rally in a livestock arena Wednesday.
At least 10 protesters interrupted the president during his speech. Most were quickly nabbed by security and escorted out of the arena by police, but at one point a Trump supporter apparently attacked a protester on the arena’s dirt floor.
The president saw the fracas and approved.
“I love that. I watched that,” Trump said as police intervened and the crowd cheered. “Who’s the guy that threw that punch?”
HuffPost obtained an incident report filed early Thursday morning listing the incident as a simple assault that’s now under investigation. A police investigator wrote that the victim, Timothy McDaniel, said “an unknown suspect unlawfully injured the victim by placing the victim in a headlock and punching him in the head, neck and chest. The assault caused the victim minor bodily injury.”
The officer wrote that he could see minor bruising injuries on the victim, and the report says the case has been assigned to an investigator.
The president called the protester, apparently McDaniel, a “lunatic,” and said he was “a very unattractive guy.”
It’s at least the second assault at a Trump rally this month. At an Oct. 12 rally in Youngstown, Ohio, the president watched his supporters attack a protester wearing a T-shirt calling for the release of the government’s files on Jeffrey Epstein, a sexual predator who was once friends with Trump.
“He’s a fat guy,” Trump said of the protester. “Got to go on a diet fast.”
Youngstown police told HuffPost the next day they would launch a criminal investigation if the victim came forward and filed a complaint.
“No one should be assaulted at an event,” Youngstown Police Lt. Frank Rutherford said. “If you punch somebody in the face, you should get in trouble for that. That’s wrong.”
WFMJ reported on Wednesday the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating three suspects for their involvement in the Ohio incident.
At the rally in South Carolina, HuffPost observed Trump supporters try to hit two other protesters as they were being led out of the arena, but security personnel stopped them.
Former heavyweight boxer Evander Holyfield accompanied Trump to the event and made brief remarks onstage. Trump compared the supporter who apparently struck McDaniel favorably to Holyfield.
“Who’s the guy that threw the punch? You are,” Trump said, pointing to someone in the crowd. “You know, you reminded me of Evander ‘The Real Deal’ Holyfield. No, the guy stood up and he he got whacked, man. They don’t realize it’s really dangerous to do that. You gotta give ’em credit, it takes courage to do that at a Trump rally.”
