Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayPresident Donald Trump tried to reimagine how his recent kiss with first lady Melania Trump went down on Thursday, resharing an X screenshot with a photo showing them heading in for each other’s lips at a recent White House event.
The reality? The first lady eventually turned her head away as Trump moved in for a peck before he landed his lips somewhere closer to her forehead.
It was a notably awkward exchange, and HuffPost wrote about it on Monday.
Trump reshared a screenshot of a post by X’s @DorothyStangle, who began by writing that the president and the first lady “were spotted in some rare moments of public intimacy” at the signing ceremony in the Rose Garden.
“After the First Lady introduced her husband, he thanked his ‘honey’, then helped her to her seat and pulled out her chair,” the post continued.
The post goes on to describe how the couple “shared a kiss while shaking hands” after signing the executive order, a move to establish a women’s health task force at the White House and a women’s health division within the National Institutes of Health.
The kiss photo — the origins of which appear to be The U.S. Sun — was stitched to another photo showing the first lady behind a podium and smiling in the direction of her husband as he sits at a nearby table in the Rose Garden.
You can check out the Trump-shared retelling here.
And check out a video of the first couple’s kiss below.
More details about the event failed to make the cut in the post.
Moments after the peck, Trump patted the first lady on the back of her hand and told her, “Great job.” He also suggested she sign the executive order before turning to those behind him and remarking, “I don’t know if her signature means anything.”
The interactions raised eyebrows with body language experts including one who told HuffPost that the first lady’s move during the attempted kiss was “absolute nonverbal avoidance” and “rejection.”
