Trump’s Makes Yet Another Cognitive Boast — And He Says These Questions Aren’t So ‘Easy’

President Donald Trump on Tuesday talked up his performance on a series of cognitive tests — a recurring segment of sorts at his rallies — before suggesting they got extremely difficult toward the end.

“You know, the first question is easy. You have a lion, a snake, a bear and a giraffe. And they say, ‘Which is the giraffe?’” began Trump at a midterm event in North Carolina.

He went on to point to the “fake news” covering the rally after he referred to the “last questions” on the tests.

“There’s not a person there that could answer,” he added.

Trump appears to be referring to the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a brief exam designed to be easy and to detect cognitive impairment, not to identify high intelligence, as the president has claimed over the years.

Early questions on a sample test ask participants to draw a clock, identify three different animals and repeat five words.

For the remainder of the assessment, according to the sample test, participants read a list of digits and letters, subtract numbers, repeat sentences, name words that start with “B” in one minute, identify similarities and recall the five words from earlier.

The very last question? Name the date, place and city where the test is being administered.

Trump: "The first question is easy. You have a lion, a snake, a bear, and a giraffe. And they say, 'which is the giraffe?' So that's always the question they show ... when they get into those last questions -- see the fake news? There's not a person there that could answer." pic.twitter.com/Usk4ZVHXY5

Trump memorably addressed a time he “aced” such a test in 2020, bragging on Fox News that doctors found it “amazing” when he remembered and repeated five words: person, woman, man, camera, TV.

At an Arizona rally last week, he declared he was a “freaking genius” and claimed the test’s administrators told him that “nobody” could remember and repeat another five words — “hat, hair, logo, white, black” — quite like him.

Some 46% of Americans gave Trump, whom the White House described as the “sharpest” president in U.S. history, a “poor” rating in terms of his mental sharpness as president, per a Strength in Numbers/Verasight poll in July, just 4% less than those who said the same of his predecessor, Joe Biden.
